I know I should not complain but it has been way too warm and dry here in Reno the last few weeks. It will be in the 60's here today and almost 70 degrees in Reno! I want winter to be over and this just isn't right for February. Someone loves the weather lately. Junior and Sally the emus are begging for me to give them a bath every day. So I get the hose out and it's shower time.
Junoior lays in the water and then poops up and gives a great shake sending water in all directions.
Sally takes the reserved approach and sits quietly while the water flows under her belly and I take the hose and shower her over her back.
It was only 40 degrees the morning these pictures were taken. Seems 40 degrees is the proper temperature to start asking for their bath.
Who would have thought emu's loved the water so much.
From approximately November/ December Sally starts laying eggs. This goes on every three days till early spring. Junior is the nest builder and what a fine job he has done! Once he gets about six eggs in the nest he'll get broody and start to set. Male emu are the egg setters and chick raisers. Females go off and find a new male and his nest since they will lay up to 30 eggs in a season. I take the eggs away though because I don't need any more emu!

You could raise emus and sell them! You haven't done that yet have you? :)
Those eggs are so beautiful; do you sell them? If so, I'd be interesting in having one "just for pretty" if you drive up for BSG again.
Thanks for your "Wow" on my fleeces!
I love the color of the emu egg. Those birds must really love you!
That's really interesting! How they like their shower!
How interesting! The egg is beautiful. I love the color. I had to google and read all about EMU's again! How many do you have? It says they're native to Australia. Did you buy them locally? Very neat post!
My emu bath video is on YouTube. You could have shown them in action. No baths needed now. I'm already tired of the snow but we've got more coming :(
