Fiber Projects

This month has been full of fiber projects. Snow and cold days can do that since I'm inside more than usual. Blue Face Leicester dyed for the guild meeting. I've even been spinning yarn. The two colored skeins are from fiber I got at Christmas from Ann up in Idaho. She sent me some blends of wool, silk, mohair and bamboo dyed different colors and get this a small bag of some yak right off her own yaks! I'd say the wool and mohair are from her animals also. The white skein is from my shetland ewe Charlee with 20% silk blended on my Pat Green Super Carder. Charlee's wool is as bright as the silk.
Felting has to be part of my fiber work so I gave this purse a try. I saw a picture of a knitted purse like this. The long handle fits inside the shorter handle closing the purse and leaving room to put your arm in the long handle to carry easily. This is all felt, no knit, over a cardboard resist. The fiber is from Becky, her "feel good" fiber I got from her about a year or so back. It is a Romney cross fleece I believe and was it hard to felt! Hard meaning it took forever to felt tight. Now it's still soft and fluffy but holding together enough to be durable. The center is some more fiber from Ann that was spun and knit together then felted into the black fiber. As the saying goes it's never done till it's embellished, or more is more, so I'm looking for buttons or beads to embellish with now.

Last but not least Sally has been busy this month also. I now have four beautiful emu eggs. The eggs are sitting on some shetland felt. Pre felt to be more accurate. These will be for some rugs I'd like to make. Pre felt is felting fiber to a near done state then cutting designs from them to place over new fiber and felt them into each other "inlays". The designs stay sharp and clear that way.

You've been a busy lady! I may have to look into that 'pre felting'....

All lovely! I really like the new look of your page. Do you have a link somewhere to your felted bags? I went to show someone, then couldn't find anything.

I didn't realize emu eggs were that color! Very interesting.

Your yarn colors are gorgeous. Both dyed and natural.

The 'feel good' wool is romeldale and romney, I have never thought of it in terms of felting, but now I can see where it would be hard. I have been playing with it again in the last week... I guess I'm still going to buy the ewe lol
Beautiful bag, cant wait to see it in person :)

Your dyed wool is beautiful! And those gorgeous emu eggs, did you dye them in with the wool? lol. I enjoy your blog!
