Here is Tess and one of her ewe lambs born on April 1st. Her other ewe lamb is still alive and in the barn warm and cozy. Something awful is happening I'm loosing lambs and so far no vet has heard of this and no other shepard I've talked to has had this problem.

I've seen your messages to the Shetland list and wish I could offer some ideas or suggestions. I hope the heartbreak is over now AND you find out what was behind it!
Mim, I'm behind on the problems you've been having with the sheep. Could this be selenium deficiency? It seems alot of shepherds I know of (around here and a few on the Shetland list) have had selenium problems this year.
I ended up getting a vial of BoSe to have on hand as I realized that while I'm not in an area that is Se deficient, our hay comes from areas that are. I haven't had to use it, but better safe to have it available. Most shepherds in our area have to feed from hays purchased through a feed store, so you never know where it comes from one batch to the next. Alfalfa is grown in AZ, but grass hays have to come from CA, NV, UT, & CO.
