Short Post

I've had time to dye more this last few weeks. I'm going to Texas on October 8th and need dyed fiber to sell for Christmas so I thought it would be wise to get moving. I love it now that the days are cooler, not so much watering of the yard. Gives me more time in the house to work with the fiber! Blue Face Leicester roving 8oz's of each color handpainted then drafted and braided. Next dye day the merino roving will get some color.
The flash gives more Bling than necessary.
I love the creamy color on the right. I mixed two colors and dripped them over the damp roving that had some vinegar and a bit of soap in the soak water. Rolled it up in plastic wrap and steamed it. I like the soft colors from that technique. I'll try drip method on the merino.

Opps, edit post!
Look what I got out of the garden this morning. Indian Corn!

Your roving is beautiful. I would like to start dyeing some of mine. What dyes and method would you recommend for a beginner?

Lovely colors Mim! I like the subtle color changes. Alas, even with more Shetland wool in my personal stash than I can ever spin, I still lust after roving like yours.

But my dear Brook just came in with some elderberries....he thought maybe I would be interested in dyeing with it! Yes, I would :-)

Beautiful work with both dyepot and garden! I especially like the tutti-frutti skein.

Lois, to have elderberries to dye with is fantastic. We live in a near berryless region. Natural dyes do make the best of colors. That's what I'm working on with my non natural dyes. Warm suttle colors.
Kara, I answered on your blog. I use Pro Chem acid dyes right now. Seven colors and mix them to get my own colors.

So you actually hand paint the roving and then braid it? I guess I had assumed you were dying the braids! However you do it, the results are beautiful!!

Mim will you dye to order? I still havent come up with a lively lime yet... BFL or Merino either one would be perfect, maybe 4 ounces?

Your rovings are always gorgeous, but I think these are ever more so. I'll probably end up buying some - you are hard to resist.

Mim, I want to call dibs on the red one all the way to the left, k? I may be there the weekend of the meeting, or if not the following Monday, I will need fiber therapy either way!
I have to attend a deposition in relation to Tad's death on the 13th.

Oh no, someone already has dibs on the red ones. BFL is so lovely and your colors look lush.
First time on your site, very nice. Thanks for sharing.
